The book is well written and I enjoyed the author's style of relaxed expertise. I think that my main complain on reaching the end of the book is that it should have been longer - the accounts would have flowed better if the battles in the Scottish Highlands, and maybe those of Northumberland too, had been included as well/5(4).

I have read many other books on Scottish history and noticed that the information seemed to be very basic popular history found on the less researched books. The rest of the book is about various battles in Scotland during the wars of succession, between Scotland and England and finally Glencoe and the Jacobite rebellions/5(2).
